ABOUT ME (& a disclaimer)

My husband and I started trying for a family since our first wedding anniversary in 2004. I thought it would be a really romantic start to our family life. Little did I know that 3 years later there would not be a sniff of a pregnancy.

We went to our GP after the first year of trying and he sent us off for tests. After they came back ok-ish, we investigated further. I was prodded and poked and had dye put through, I had new scars on my tummy from a laparoscopy and I had spent a small fortune on ovulation and pregnancy tests.  We started to get an understanding about what was wrong. We were eventually given a sad 1% chance of falling pregnant naturally. Great.

We then found ourselves in front of a leading IVF consultant at a well known Harley Street Clinic in London. He agreed with us. We needed IVF. So before we signed on the dotted line, we thought we’d do a little investigating on this industry. (Basically because we didn’t want to spend upwards of £6000 for one ICSI cycle)

So we went back home and got the laptop out and googled 'IVF in Europe'. Nothing. Just links to clinics with large web marketing budgets. So I went to my faithful friends on my fertility website and asked 'has anyone done this before?’ I got so much information back! - 'look at this thread, I think she had it done in Norway' or ' they went to Russia I think, and they are pregnant!' - Where in Norway?? Where in Russia?? How on earth do I organise this??

So that’s when it hit me. I’ll pull this all together and try and make some sense of this. I’ve got a marketing and business background so I thought I’d put my skills to good use (I stopped working to concentrate on IVF so it helped to have a project. Not that I stopped voluntarily. There’s nothing like a redundancy to get the entrepreneurial juices thinking!)

So here we are. A website devoted to people like you and me. An online place where all the information can be pulled together so we can all have a better idea of what’s involved in IVF in Europe.

So did I get that BFP? (that’s Big Fat Positive to non chat room folks)
